Maria Souto Varela
Maria has been involved in teaching, pedagogy and education since 1995. She is currently a part time lecturer at WLCollege. She discovered democratic education during her first year of EYFS training and has always been fascinated by educational theories that bring respect, equality and freedom of choice to interaction and learning with children.
She completed a philology degree in Galicia as well as a post graduate in education.
She has taught modern languages in secondary schools and a variety of subjects in Primary and FE (mainstream and SEN).
She is also a qualified pilates, dance to music teacher and yoga for children teacher.
She is working towards an accredited Institute of Outdoor Learning bush craft qualification.
Catia has years of experience as a teacher in primary settings and EYFS (UK and overseas). She holds a degree in Primary education as well as master in SEN both completed in Portugal. She moved to London in 2014. She has been focusing her last five years of work solely in Early years, bringing a holistic and democratic approach into her teaching, making possible for students to explore their personal, social and emotional development as much as academic goals and targets.
She has an interest in outdoor learning and nature projects.
She is the author of children's book " Uma familia differente" ("A different family") , a book about diversity within the family unit.
Catia is currently doing her Level 3 Forest School Training.
