What do we offer?
Being free being me is a preschool which aims to spend majority of the time outdoors in the natural environment. We take children from ages 2 up to 5 year olds. We follow the Early Years Foundation Stage Framework and we are Ofsted registered. We have extended our registration to also accommodate children who are flexi schooling or home-schooling from ages 5 to 8.
We promote a self directed learning approach and we involve children in decision making as much as we can. We provide a safe environment where they connect with others in equality to share, negotiate, solve problems and learn new skills. Our planned activities are flexible in order to accommodate children’s wishes and ideas.
The 7 areas which are part of the Early Years Foundation Stage Framework are available in Biggin Woods through the set up of different workstations. These are:
Communication and Language, Physical Development, Personal, Social and Emotional Development, Numeracy, Literacy, Understanding the World, Expressive Arts and Design.
Assessments and gathering evidence
Children are regularly and informally assessed in order to help them to develop their learning. These assessments allow us to set new goals or steps individually tailored and to highlight any areas that need extra attention.
Assessments are gathered in a non-intrusive way with the use of Tapestry software, an online journal. We provide families with several assessments throughout the year: Autumn, Spring and Summer reports.
Age bands established in the document Development Matters as a guideline are:
Birth to 11 months
8 to 20 months
16 to 26 months
22 to 36 months
30 to 50 months
40 to 60+ months
